Week Twenty-One

Kim Tribe

Well we are down to the final five. After starting in October with 40 castaways, we have made our way down to five hardy Caucasian males. A lot of strategizing has gotten these guys to this point, and a lot more will get them to the finals. Cowin has been immune four weeks in a row, and the other four guys were not going to let it happen again. While he is not the fastest or the smartest, Cowin had a competitiveness that no one else had, and he will never give up. So the group set him to work. The shelter needed some work, and since Cowin was the strongest he should be the guy doing all the heavy lifting. Cowin didn’t argue, but meekly got to work. The other guys didn’t just stand around and watch, but they did work sparingly to conserve energy.

Binny and Elliott barely did anything all day. The game was almost over, why should they do any work? So it was mostly left up to Cowin, Kyle and Scott. That did give them some time together to strategize, which was something that Kyle wanted more than anything. If he could get Cowin on his side, then Elliott and Binny would be out very soon. But Elliott and Binny tried to get to Cowin as well. They wanted Cowin on their side as well, but since they weren’t doing any work, Cowin wasn’t going to talk to them until after the immunity challenge.

Immunity Challenge

This week’s immunity challenge has two parts. The first part is a race involving running and heavy lifting. Each contestant must sprint 400m, collect a 150lb backpack, and sprint back to the start. Once the castaway returns to the start, they must use the contents of the backpack to strategically stop the others from completing their puzzles.

Each of the five puzzles have to be put together all in the same frame. So the first person to come back is able to put their puzzle together in a way to block out the others from completing theirs. Each castaway’s puzzle pieces can only be placed next to one of their own, in an empty space. When there are no empty spaces beside your pieces, you are eliminated. The last person still able to place a piece will win immunity.

The attribute weightings are as follows:

Speed: 40%
Strength: 20%
Prob-Solv: 0%
Strategy: 40%
Co-Op: 0%

So all five contestants are lined up, and the challenge begins. Scott takes a very big lead in the sprint, and is the first to reach the pack. Elliott is next followed by Binny, then Cowin, then Kyle. On the way back, Cowin is able to make up some ground and passes Binny. Scott and Elliott are neck and neck as they reach the giant puzzle frame at the same time and begin to unpack their heavy bags. Cowin is next to make it, then Kyle and finally Binny who had a hard time with the 150 lbs.

Scott was having a hard time figuring out the strategic element of the game, while Elliott was making some headway in blocking out Cowin. Kyle was just breezing through the puzzle, and with Elliott’s help successfully blocked out Cowin from placing any more pieces. Then Scott couldn’t place any more pieces, and then Binny was finished too. That left just Kyle and Elliott frantically placing their heavy pieces to block eachother out. Elliott dropped his last piece on to his foot, and with a yelp, jumped up and down. He then bent to pick up his piece, and when he stood back up Kyle had placed his last piece in the last spot blocking Elliott out.

So for the second week in a row, Elliott places second in the immunity challenge. But Cowin did not win this week.
